When to go to South Africa?

South Africa’s climate varies greatly across its regions, offering diverse experiences depending on when and where you visit.
The best time to travel will depend on whether you want to go on safari, enjoy the beaches, or explore cities like Cape Town. We went in April when there were

  • Shoulder season: (April to May) and (September to October) – Mild weather and fewer tourists make this a great time to visit for safaris and outdoor activities.
  • High season: (December to February) – South Africa’s summer months bring warm, sunny weather, ideal for beach holidays along the coast, but this is also the busiest time of the year, especially around Cape Town and the Garden Route.
  • Safari season: (May to September) – The dry winter months are perfect for wildlife viewing in game reserves like Kruger National Park. The cooler, dry weather forces animals to gather around waterholes, making sightings easier.
